Canadians Open the Season on a Two Game Winning Streak

The Greater Vancouver Canadians opened the 2008-09 season with a two game winning streak!  The Canadians headed over to the island for two games against the North Island Silvertips and came back with two wins.

The first game of the two game set opened with a hard fought wide open first period with the Silvertips closing the period with a 2-1 lead.  Spencer Traher opened the Canadians scoring with a turn-over goal on the penalty kill.  The Canadians battled back in the second thanks to goals by Clayton Wright and Manraj Hayer to head into the third with a 3-2 lead.  In the third the Canadians got goals from Patrick Hayes and Christian Rodriguez to take a 5-2 lead which the Canadians never gave up.  The 'Tips were able to sneak in a late goal but their efforts were a little too late.

The second game of the set featured another hard working affair with more team play and special teams action.  The Canadians finished up the first with a 3-1 lead thanks to goals from Cam Lawson, Jamus Lane and Manraj Hayer (on the powerplay).  The 'Tips closed the gap in the second to draw to 4-3, but Jamus Lane chipped in with his second of the day.  In the third the Canadians put it away with goals on the powerplay and even strength from Ray Helgason and Manraj Hayer.

The Canadians now enter a week of practice before hosting the Okanagan Rockets this coming weekend.  Check back for updates  on the Canadians scoreboard.
