3 Point Weekend for Canadians



The Vancouver Canadians and Okanagan Rockets both entered this weekends action on two game winning streak.  The first game featured a hard working, wide open game with both teams putting 33 shots on the oppositions net.  The first period feature a back-and-forth hard skating period with scoring chances at both ends, however the period ended with a 0-0 tie.  The second period feature more of the same with both teams skating hard and finishing their checks.  The period ended 1-1, with the Canadians goal coming from Jamus Lane.  The third and final period was an action packed 20 minutes of end-to-end hockey.  The Canadians went down 3-1 in the first 10 minutes of the period.  However, a tip-in goal from Ray Helgason on the powerplay got the Canadians bench buzzing.  Then Zack Yuen stepped up with a beautiful end-to-end rush goal to pull the game to a 3-3 tie.  Then with .57 seconds remaining on the clock, Patrick Hayes feed Riley Sweeny a pass for a one-timer which proved to be the game winning goal.  Alex Wind took the win in goal with 30 saves.

The second game of the set showcased a closer, more defensive game.  Both teams came out playing the body, moving the puck and firing as many shots at the net as possible.  Three minutes into the opening period Mark Prest opened the scoring with a snapshot right of an offensive zone face-off.  The first period ended with a 1-0 lead for the Canadians.  The second period featured a boat-load of powerplays for both sides, but neither team was able to capitalize and the score remained 1-0.  The Canadians came out battling in the third and were able to scratch out a scramble goal from Patrick Hayes to boost their lead to 2-0.  The Rockets then stepped on the gas and used a transition goal to draw the game to 2-1.  Then on their last powerplay of the game, the Rockets were able to capitalize and draw even at 2-2.  Andrew Hunt played strong in net for the Canadians with 24 saves and took the tie.

The Canadians head to Kamloops next weekend for a two game set against the Thompson Blazers.
