Another Split Weekend for the Canadians

The first game of the weekend set was hosted by the Greater Vancouver Canadians at Sungod Arena in North Delta.  The Saturday evening game was a spirited affair, with the Canadians jumping out to a 1-0 first period lead thanks to a quick snap shot goal from Clayton Wright.  The Cougars were able to close the gap mid-way through the second frame with an even strength goal of their own.  The teams then exchanged goals late in the second with the Canadians goal again coming from North Delta native Clayton Wright.  The second period would finish tied at two.  The Canadians took the lead early in the third period from a goal by Cameron Lawson and the game finished in favour of the Canadians, 3-2.  The Alex Wind was able to preserve the victory.

The second game of the weekend set was played Sunday morning at the Ladner Leisure Centre.  This game picked up were the first left off, as the spirited hockey continued between the Cougars and Canadians.  The Cougars put in a solid team effort, for a hard earned, 5-4 win over the Canadians.  It was the Cougars jumping out to the quick lead this time with 3 goals ending the first period with a 3-1 lead.  The Canadians goal coming from Ray Helgason.  The final two periods proved to be a come from behind battle for the Canadians as they fought to score three late in the final period, but were unable to battle back from the first period deficit.  Goal scorers for the Canadians in the third period were Jamus Lane, Clayton Wright, and Manraj Hayer.  Andrew Hunt took the loss in net, however put forth a strong effort to keep the game close.

The Greater Vancouver Canadians will be on the road next weekend when they travel to Vancouver Island to play the South Island Thunderbirds.  Check the schedule section for times and locations.
